How to raise caring kids – Twitter Party – 9 PM – #JNJ #LATISM
Tonight we’ll cover one of the most important topics in my life as a mother, an optimist and a believer – raising caring kids! We all know that it starts right at home. It’s a long process that begins first with the human concept of sharing and then evolves into caring. I wonder how many of us dare to get deeper into the conversation of happiness? We are happier when we care for one another. That, for example, is something I tell my kids every time I get the “Why?” question.
Mami, why do I have to share/care/give/help/defend….?
Because you were created to love. The ultimate purpose of your existence is to build a better today. Only when your actions are in harmony with your purpose can you experience true happiness. Maybe you won’t feel the immediate excitement that lives in your feelings, but there is something way greater that words cannot even begin to explain.
Ok now down to reality, how can I communicate this to my 12-year-old Pepe who wants to be cool in middle school? Or to my 9-year-old Pier who needs his peers’ acceptance and might not see the importance of standing out for the new kid in class who is getting bullied due to his lack of English (this just happened)? How do I convince my 5-year-old Nora that she’ll ultimately be happier if she gives some of her many toys to kids who have none?
How do we go about it? What is working for you? Who do you think is doing a good job? How can we get kids excited about caring for others? What are age-appropriate acts of kindness? These are only some of the questions we will talk about during tonight’s Twitter Party at 9:00 pm (EST).
This same topic will be the center of our first LATISM ’14 breakfast on Friday morning. In partnership with Johnson & Johnson, we will have a distinguished panel that includes fellow blogueras who are using social media for social good and to engage their children, experts from various foundations, and the mastermind behind Donate a Photo. We won’t just be talking about social good tonight – we’ll be doing social good as well, using Johnson & Johnson’s Donate A Photo app. Download the free app for your iOS or Android device or visit www.donateaphoto.com before the party so you can participate in our #LATISM14 twitter party photo challenge!
This will be a session full of information and hands-on tips – including an activity for your little ones that you won’t want to miss!
To get the conversation started, we’ll begin to share ideas tonight during our Twitter Party. I invite each and everyone of you to join and share your best social good family tip.
