Washington state defies minimum wage logic

opening_remarks49__01__300Raising the minimum wage could point in the direction of economic prosperity for the lower working class.  Washington state is moving fast and is adding jobs faster than any other state in the country.  Minimum wage, is also at  $9.32 and hour while the Federal minimum wage is at $7.25 an hour.  If this increased minimum wage would happen in states throughout the country, perhaps the lower class can rise out of poverty.

Small businesses where there has a been a hiked minimum wage argue that this could put them out of business.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said that while gradually raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 would lift 900,000 out of poverty, it could also mean the loss of 500,000 jobs.  Either way people are living in poverty and jobs had been scarce for a while.
