It is expected on June 2, the United States government will begin the single most important step it’s ever taken to fight climate change: limiting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, the country’s largest climate polluter.
Is government intervention going to drive up cost of energy?
Some states have taken action by cutting carbon pollution. One state even cut it by 40 percent.
In June 2013, President Obama promised to cut U.S. greenhouse gas pollution by nearly 10 percent by 2020. It’s an ambitious goal, but largely achievable by focusing on a single sector.
People fear that costs will go up due to carbon cutting and the price of electricity will increase. Also other people state that there is no way to measure if carbon cutting is actually working.
