Ford in hot water for sexist Berlusconi ad

Scandal with Indian unit of Ford Motor Co. whose advertisement was labeled as demeaning to women.  The advertisement ad consisted of Italy’s former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi with a trio of bound women in the trunk of a car.  The ad showed three women in the trunk gagged and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi smiling from the front seat.  The slogan said “Leave your worries behind with the Figo’s extra-large boot.”

A Ford India spokeswoman says there is an investigation about the print ads even though they were never used commercially.

These ads were said to be discovered after India passed a new law on violence against women, after a fatal gang rape of a student on a bus.  Following this incident there was a huge mass protest and this spotlighted the status of women in India.

Last week Ford made the following statement  against the ad “contrary to the standards of professionalism and decency with Ford”.

Do you think these ad images were intentionally done after the India passed the law on violence against women?
