10/4 #LATISM Twitter Party: Literacy and the Latino Community

Illiteracy is not just a problem among children. Many adults struggle with reading and writing as well. Join us Thursday night as we discuss family literacy during our #Latism Twitter Party.

Do you know someone who can’t read?

Is there an adult in your family who isn’t able to write?

Do you know someone who struggles with reading because of language barriers?

Do you know what types of resources are out there for families who want to become literate?

Toyota is committed to the advancement of safety, education, and environmental conservation among Latinos. Together with the National Conference on Family Literacy, they’re helping families to live fuller lives through literacy. The Toyota Family Literacy Program serves English as a Second Language (ESL) families with children in elementary school. Since 2003, the program has impacted more than a million families. Through training and consulting, NCFL helps family literacy practitioners support and improve their communities and provides the latest in professional development and best practice expertise.

And the teachers who are committed to helping families read should be rewarded for their hard work. Toyota’s Teacher of the Year Award does just that. It “recognizes the outstanding efforts of a family literacy teacher who has made innovative and passionate contributions to improving the lives of adults and children through family literacy.”

So join our guest hosts tonight @ToughCookieMom and @LatinMami as they lead the conversation and share information for making literacy possible for everyone.
