Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most desired of them all? Well, according to the website AskMen, that title belongs to the 39 year old Colombian born actress, Sofia Vergara. The Modern Family starlet beat out stiff and much younger competition, including last year’s winner Blake Lively and 98 other women who were all part of the official ‘Most Desirable Woman’ poll put together by AskMen.
Reportedly over one million men were surveyed to come to this conclusion. And Vergara accepted the honor in her signature accent and humor.
“I am so honored to be AskMen’s most desired woman this year. A big thank you to all the men who desire me,” she told the website.
But before we get too far along with congratulations for this belleza Latina, let’s first consider why this title is so significant. Until a couple of years ago Sofia Vergara was only a household name in our casitas, at least for those of us who remember her from her days on Spanish-language network Univision. Seemingly de la noche a la mañana she was everywhere. On Soul Plane, working with Tyler Perry, on countless commercials, and then finally on Modern Family as the very loveable character, Gloria!
In a way, arguably of course, and this is my opinion here now, Sofia made accents cool!
Certainly Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas are among the most successful movie stars with Latino accents, and there are many others who also have made their acentos a part of who they are – thinking Rosie Perez here – but Sofia Vergara seems to have connected with millions on a whole other level… on a more human and personal level. Those curves and that exotic beauty are undeniable. We can’t help but to want to watch her. But her sharp and matter of fact humor – even silliness I would say – makes men and women just want to hug her.
¡Bien hecho, Sofia! You are caliente and desirable.
