According to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statitistics [July 2011], minorities have continued to face significantly higher unemployment rates than Whites, while unemployment rates for Latinos held relatively steady at 11.3 percent.
Looking for employment is always difficult, but for those who have experienced the situation first hand during a down economy, it can be even more of an ordeal. At times like these, it becomes even more important to be aware of what companies are doing, and to build a large network of connections that can bring you closer to that goal.
Enter social media. It is no secret that Twitter, Facebook and other SM platforms can bring you closer to finding a job by lowering the “entry point” and giving you access to contacts that could otheriwise be extremely hard to make.
At the same time, companies are increasingly using social recruiting to source candidates for employment, as well as to investigate applicants they are considering hiring.
As part of our LATISM ’11 conference topic party series, our LATISM party tonight will focus on the current unemployment situation, possible solutions as well as social media tactics we can use to our advantage to find job opportunities, market ourselves to companies, showcase our skills and experience, and land a new job.
